Police warning: Don’t leave running vehicle untended and unlocked
Rochester police are warning residents who warm up their cars on cold mornings to either stay with the vehicle or make sure the doors are locked.
The latest case of a stolen vehicle happened just before 6 a.m. Friday in the 1500 block of Fourth Ave. SE. A blue Chevy Trailblazer was left running, with keys in the ignition and the doors unlocked, said Capt. Casey Moilanen of the Rochester Police Department. While the owner was inside the residence, someone drove off with the vehicle.
“Don’t leave your car untended and unlocked when it’s running,” Moilanen said. “It’s happening all over town, and with different suspects. Often, it’s a crime of opportunity. People will say, ‘It will never happen to me,’ but it only takes five minutes.”
