Texans visit Darlington Raceway

September 2, 2018

Connie Molloy Guthrie, Matt Guthrie and Sandra Black enjoy their third year at Darlington Raceway.

DARLINGTON, S.C. - Connie and Matt Guthrie flew to South Carolina from Houston, Texas. Sandra got the drive the fifth-wheel trailer.

“It wasn’t too bad, about 16 hours,” Sandra said.

The Gutheries are Houston Texans fans, apparent from their 10x10 pop-up shade tent.

“This is our third year,” Matt said. “We missed last year because of Hurricane Harvey.”

The like their spot, just outside the pit gate at the west end of the infield.

“The infield and the hot passes are the best thing ever,” Connie said. “We like being able to go back in the pits and garage areas.”

They had a “run with the kids” incident the other night.

“It’s hard to get the drivers to stop for an adult,” Connie said. “So these kids are out here the past two nights and the parents will tell them there goes Bad Brad or goes there goes Jimmy Johnson,” she said.

So, in order for the adult to garner autographs, they use the kids to slow down the drivers.

“I’m waiting for Bad Brad to come through, so here he did and I’m running just like the kids. I swear it was a sight to see, but I got his autograph,” she said.
