Stocks Higher in Early Trading

July 30, 1999

NEW YORK (AP) _ Stock prices are higher in early trading today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up seven points. Advancers on the New York Stock Exchange hold a nearly 2-1 lead over decliners.

The Nasdaq is up 20 points and the S&P 500 Index is up three points. There appears to be some upward momentum in the market to start the session.

But analysts warn that investors may not be done taking money off the table amid new concerns about higher interest rates. Bond prices are lower, and that may keep any early gains in check.

Investors got a fairly benign report today on June personal income and spending levels.

They’re also standing by for an upcoming report this morning on June sales of new homes.
