TAMPA, Fla. (AP) _ The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired Boyd Kane from the New York Rangers for Gordie Dwyer in a trade Thursday of left wings.
Kane had 17 goals, 22 assists and 193 penalty minutes in 78 games last season with Hartford of the American Hockey League.
Originally the 72nd overall pick by Pittsburgh in the 1996 NHL entry draft, Kane re-entered the draft in 1998. The Rangers selected him with 114th pick.
``Boyd Kane is an aggressive, hard-nosed, in-your-face kind of hockey player,″ Lightning general manager Jay Feaster said. ``At the same time, as evidenced by his 17 goals in the minors last year, he has some offensive upside.″
Dwyer, acquired from Montreal in November 1999, had four assists and 291 penalty minutes in 78 games with the Lightning over the past three seasons.
