Lyft opens driver support center, partners with Hertz
Ride-hailing company Lyft is expanding its presence in San Antonio with the opening of a new driver support center and a partnership with Hertz.
The new center at 8610 Broadway St. will host trainings, dispense supplies and help with driver needs. It will also serve as Lyft’s headquarters in San Antonio, housing the company’s local marketing and operations employees.
Lyft is also partnering with Hertz to launch a Express Drive program at 8770 Crownhill Blvd. near San Antonio International Airport. Lyft drivers will be able to rent cars from the facility and Lyft will handle the insurance, said Janet Peavy, Lyft’s San Antonio marketing manager.
“Now drivers don’t even need to own their own car to access our platform,” she said during an announcement at the new center Thursday.
The cost starts at $209 per week, but Lyft drivers can earn rewards by driving more and “some or all” of the costs could be covered by those rewards, according to the company’s website.
Support centers and similar programs in other cities have proven to be popular, Peavy said. In San Antonio, the program could appeal to the military community, she added. Some young recruits may not be able to afford a car and people in between tours of duty would have the flexibility of renting cars from the facility, she said.
