May 7, 1934 ~ July 7, 2018

Bernard ^Duke^ McCord, age 84, was reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Carol. He passed peacefully on Saturday, July 7, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Duke was born on May 7, 1934, on a small farm in western Pennsylvania, to James Henry McCord and Clara Delle (Brookover) McCord. He was the youngest of nine children. His family later moved to Marietta, Ohio, where he graduated from Lawrence High School in 1952. He entered the United States Air Force in November of 1952, and after training was assigned to the 13th Ammunition Supply Squadron at Anderson AFB, Guam, in 1953, in support of the Korean War. He would later serve in Vietnam and assignments to France and Germany.

Duke met the love of his life, Carol, in 1956, at Hill AFB, Utah. They married on March 9, 1957, in Evanston, Wyoming. Duke, Carol and their fours sons spent his military career at various assignments in the US and Europe, until his retirement in 1973, as a Chief Master Sergeant. He later retired from Kimberly-Clark in 1996.

Duke resided with his wife, Carol, at their home in Riverdale, UT, where they devoted their lives to loving each other, family, and friends. Duke is survived by his four sons: Steve McCord, Robert (Jill) McCord, Ross (Teresa) McCord and Jeffrey (Nancy) McCord; and his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Special Thanks to Hearts for Hospice for the amazing care Duke received during his final days at home, the Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Doctors and staff for their care while Duke was fighting his cancer and the care and assistance from the staff at Jenkins-Soffe to our family.

A celebration of Duke’s life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
