Four Men Killed in Swiss Tea Room
BERN, Switzerland (AP) _ Four men were shot to death in an attack at a tea room in the diplomatic center of the Swiss capital, police said today.
The killings occurred Monday at the Safari Tea Room. Police found the bodies of the men lying in the back of the room. The gunmen had fled.
The establishment had been closed for two months after a change in ownership and was to reopen today under the management of a Turkish woman, police said.
The Italian consulate and the embassies of Ghana and Jordan are among other tenants of the same building.
Federal prosecutor spokesman Juerg Blaser said there appeared to be no connection between the killings and the diplomatic missions. The motive for the attack was not clear.
Police said they had yet to identify the victims. Bloody footprints could be seen today on the stairs to the tea room’s basement toilets.
Some 40 police officers have been assigned to the case, and a number of people have been questioned, but no one has been charged, police said.
