Falcons Coach Has Heart Surgery
ATLANTA (AP) _ Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Reeves was hospitalized today for triple-bypass surgery after feeling ill during Sunday’s game.
The four-hour operation was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. EST at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, said Reeves’ mother, Ann Reeves.
She told The Associated Press that Reeves was not feeling well during Sunday’s game in New Orleans against the Saints. She said her son has had surgery in the past to clear his arteries.
``He knew he was having difficulty so he went this morning″ to the hospital, she said.
The Falcons (12-2) defeated the Saints 27-17. Reeves and the team flew back to Atlanta late Sunday.
Reeves, a five-time NFL coach of the year, is in his second year as coach in Atlanta. He also coached the New York Giants and the Denver Broncos.
