Camper fire on Prairie Island Monday under investigation, Winona police suspect foul play

November 6, 2018

Winona police say a camper fire on Prairie Island Monday night may have been started intentionally.

According to Deputy Chief Tom Williams, at 8:23 p.m. Monday, Winona police and local fire departments responded to a report of a camper parked in the spillway parking lot on Prairie Island that was fully engulfed in flames.

He said there is reason to believe the fire was set intentionally and all registration, including license plates and VIN number had been removed from the camper.

Anyone with information related to the cause of the fire should contact the Winona Police Department non-emergency number at 507-457-6302.
