Man arrested after standoff in West Central Spokane

A SWAT team standoff in West Central neighborhood on Friday night led to the arrest of a man accused of domestic violence assault.

Spokane police received a 911 call about 6:15 p.m. for a person threatening to shoot up his house in 1500 block of North Adams Street, according to a police news release.

Suspect Matthew R. Jones, 35, retreated into the house upon seeing the police.

Officers learned that Jones was possibly armed and had threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend, police said.

A SWAT team and a hostage negotiator arrived at the house, and after a short standoff, police arrested Jones.

Jones is expected to face felony domestic violence harassment and could be given additional charges, according to the news release. The investigation is ongoing.
