Cycling club traverses state
The League of Michigan Bicyclists stopped by O.J. DeJonge Middle School Sunday to camp out for a night as part of its seven-day bicycle tour across the state.
The annual Shoreline West Bicycle Tour is a fundraiser for the group, and it is a way to encourage and increase awareness about bicycling safety, according to director Ben Saint-Onge.
“We’re a nonprofit organization based out of Lansing, and we work to educate and advocate safer bicycling in Michigan. Whether it’s passing state laws or educating more people about safer bicycling practices, these tours we do are our No. 1 source of fundraising.”
The tour started in Montague and ends in Mackinaw City, according to Saint-Onge.
