Hurricanes beat Coyotes 3-0 for 1st win of season

RALEIGH, North Carolina (AP) — Elias Lindholm scored twice as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 on Saturday for their first win of the season.

Jiri Tlusty also scored for Carolina, and Cam Ward finished with 25 saves in his first shutout since March 27, 2012. The Hurricanes had been the only NHL team without a win.

Lindholm, Carolina’s top pick in the 2013 draft, collected his first two goals of the season for his second career two-goal game.

Pittsburgh’s Marc-Andre Fleury made 18 saves for his second consecutive shutout and Chris Kunitz scored twice as the Penguins blanked the Buffalo Sabres 5-0 for their fourth straight win.

Fleury, coming off a 3-0 victory over the defending champion Los Angeles Kings, earned his third shutout in four games and 31st of his career. He has held opponents without a goal in 10 of his past 12 periods.

Kunitz also had two goals in the win over the Kings and has seven goals on the season.

Evgeni Malkin, Patric Hornqvist and Blake Comeau also scored for Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby had three assists.

Thomas Vanek scored on a power play for Minnesota as the Wild stayed unbeaten at home with a 4-1 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Mikael Granlund and Matt Dumba scored in a three-goal second period for the Wild, but Vanek’s snap shot off a pass from Zach Parise with 57 seconds left before the intermission drew the loudest roar from the crowd.

At Tampa Bay, Jason Garrison scored the tiebreaking goal early in the third period to lift the Lightning over the Washington Capitals 4-3.

The Lightning, who also got goals from Ryan Callahan, Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov, have won five of six. Tyler Johnson had two assists, giving him 13 over his last nine games.

Marcus Johansson, Eric Fehr and Troy Brouwer scored for the Capitals, who have lost four of five.

The Boston Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators 4-2 after Matt Fraser scored his first two goals of the season 1:28 apart in the second period, while Peter Holland scored at 2:21 of the third period and James Reimer made 45 saves as the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Chicago Blackhawks 3-2.

In other games, the Florida Panthers defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1, the Winnipeg Jets beat the New York Rangers 1-0 after a shootout, the New Jersey Devils edged the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2 and the St. Louis Blues were 3-2 shootout winners over the Colorado Avalanche.

The San Jose Sharks beat the New York Islanders 3-1 for their third victory in four games, and Vancouver Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 3-2.goal.
