Undated (AP) _ Kinsman Stable’s Al’s Helen withstood a closing rush by favored Dearly Bred for a neck victory Monday in the $42,000 Fair Mist Handicap for fillies and mares at Belmont Park.
Clemanna’s Rose, who had dueled with Al’s Helen in the stretch, finished third, a neck behind the runner-up.
Al’s Helen, a 4-year-old daughter of Distinctive ridden by Eddie Maple, paid $12.80, $4.80 and $2.40 in scoring her second victory in six starts. She carried 112 pounds over six furlongs in 1:12 on a track labeled good.
Dearly Bred paid $2.80 and $2.20 and Clemanna’s Rose returned $2.20 to show.
Damavand, ridden by Pimlico’s leading apprentice jockey, Mary Wiley, rallied from off the pace to win the $15,000 Busher Purse by two lengths over Now Your Teapottin.
Damavand took the lead with a quarter-mile remaining to defeat Now Your Teapottin, the favorite in the field of eight fillies and mares. The winner went 1 1-16 miles 1:45 4-5.
As the third betting choice, Damavand paid $7.60, $3.60 and $3.60. Now Your Teapottim returned $3.20 and $2.80 and How You Is paid $5 to show.
