Traffic Safety coordinator encourages safe driving

November 13, 2018

JUNEAU -- Dodge County Traffic Safety Coordinator Joel Kiesow asks motorists to drive safely this winter season.

“Winter weather is here. The first snowfall and slippery driving conditions always bring numerous crashes,” Kiesow said. “Soon we will have snow covered streets and highways and the snow plows will be out.”

He said since drivers never know when they will encounter winter weather or emergency road closures they need to keep in mind a few simple driving habits such as driving at a safe and legal speed, planning ahead, driving alert and sober could insure they make it to their destinations safely.

He said winter driving can be extremely hazardous. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, approximately 41 people are killed and almost 3,400 injured in crashes on icy or snow-covered roads in the state.

Before motorists travel, they should check with 511 Wisconsin for the latest traffic and road conditions. This information along with live traffic cameras and traffic alerts can be accessed on the 511 Wisconsin system, which includes a free mobile app @511WI on Twitter or the mobile friendly web site www.511wi.gov.
