UNDATED (AP) — Among the face-offs in a full schedule of Major League Baseball this evening are matchups with playoff implications, including some key games that have been delayed by inclement weather. Rain has delayed the start of the Los Angeles Dodgers game in Philadelphia against the Phillies and in the Bronx, where the New York Yankees are hosting the Minnesota Twins.

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball is on track to break its season record for home runs with nearly two weeks left in the season. There were 5,677 home runs hit through Monday, 16 shy of the record set in 2000 at the height of the Steroids Era. With 15 games on the schedule, this should be the day that Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger or some other big popper puts 2017 over the top.

UNDATED (AP) — Michael Phelps wondered if watching others compete at the world championships would pique his desire for another comeback. Not at all, he tells The Associated Press in an interview. Phelps said today that he has “no desire” to return to competitive swimming, but he is eager to stay involved with the sport and cheer on those who follow in his enormous wake.

CHICAGO (AP) — Doug Collins has returned to the Chicago Bulls. Just not on the sideline this time around. The rebuilding Bulls hired Collins today to serve senior adviser of basketball operations, providing “an expert resource” for the front office and coaching staff.Collins will report directly to executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson. General manager Gar Forman and coach Fred Hoiberg remain in their jobs.

WHEATON, Ill. (AP) — Wheaton College says five football players charged with felonies in connection with an alleged 2016 hazing incident have been suspended from the team. Spokeswoman LaTonya Taylor says the players have been deemed “inactive for practice or competition” by Wheaton administrators and the coaching staff.
