Edwardsville Man Faces Child Sex Charges

May 20, 2019

An Edwardsville man is facing child sex charges after allegedly forcing himself on an 11-year-old girl. Joseph B. Martin, 51, of 600 Main St., is accused of forcing the girl to perform oral sex on him, as well as to possessing nude images of her. According to the complaint, the victim told police that a few weeks ago she accompanied Martin to the Price Chopper in Edwardsville. Martin drove the girl behind the store and exposed himself, forcing her to perform oral sex on him, the charges allege. The complaint alleges that Martin grew nervous, so he took the girl to his home and again exposed himself. Martin again forced the girl to perform oral sex and groped her, according to police. The girl told police she’d also had a separate encounter with Martin at another home. Martin walked in on the girl in the bathroom and began fondling her as she performed oral sex on him, the complaint says. When the girl told him to stop, Martin said, “I can’t wait until you are older” so he could have intercourse with her, according to the complaint. During questioning, Martin admitted taking the girl to the Price Chopper and exposing himself, but claimed it was “what she wanted,” police said. Martin denied the girl performed oral sex on him, but admitted possessing nude images of the girl on his cellphone, according to the complaint. He also told police that he “regretted ever driving to the rear of Price Chopper,” according to the complaint. Police charged Martin with two counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, indecent assault, corruption of minors and child endangerment. Martin is also facing four counts of possessing child pornography. Magisterial District Judge Michael G. Dotzel arraigned Martin on the charges Friday evening and set his bail at $250,000. Martin was being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility with a preliminary hearing set for May 29. Contact the writer: jhalpin@citizensvoice.com 570-821-2058
