MILWAUKEE (AP) _ The Milwaukee Brewers signed right-hander Jason Bere to a one-year deal, $800,000 deal Friday.

Bere started last season with the Cincinnati Reds, where his salary was $1.2 million. The Reds released him in August, and he signed a minor league contract with the Brewers on Aug. 13.

With the Brewers, he went 2-0 with a 4.63 ERA in five games, including four starts.

Bere can earn an extra $400,000 in bonuses.

Bere not only has a new contract, but a new child as well. Daughter Colby Bere was born Wednesday night.
