Experimental plane crashes in Illinois cornfield
JERSEYVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Missouri man’s experimental plane has crash landed in a southern Illinois cornfield.
Jersey County Sheriff Mark Kallal says 82-year-old Donald G. Glennie of Florissant, Mo., is fortunate. The sheriff says Glennie’s plane dropped down into the field Thursday morning and was cushioned by the corn. The field is near the Jerseyville Walmart Supercenter. The sheriff tells The Telegraph in Alton (http://bit.ly/12OEHRj) that Walmart customers noticed the low-flying Mini-Max Sport aircraft overhead.
Authorities say Glennie wasn’t injured and the plane didn’t set fire.
Glennie had departed Jerseyville Aviation Inc. airport. The sheriff says the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
Jerseyville is about 40 miles north of St. Louis, Mo.
