Leverkusen’s Bosnia defender Spahic involved in fight
LEVERKUSEN, Germany (AP) — Bayer Leverkusen defender Emir Spahic could face a club suspension and criminal proceedings after being involved in a fight with security personnel following the German Cup defeat against Bayern Munich.
Leverkusen coach Roger Schmidt says he is “shocked” by the incident and club spokesman Dirk Mesch says Leverkusen is seeking a full clarification of what happened.
Spahic was involved in a fight with Leverkusen’s own security personnel, reportedly after the officials refused to allow his friends entry inside the locker room area. Bayern won the quarterfinal match on penalties.
The 34-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina defender injured his knee in the match and is out for up to four weeks.
Cologne’s public prosecutor is investigating the incident, which was filmed.
