ANTWERP, Belgium (AP) _ Germany twice broke the world record in the men’s 200-meter medley relay Thursday to win the gold medal at the European Short Course Swimming Championships.
The German quartet of Sven Theloke, Mark Warnecke, Thomas Rupprath and Carsten Dehmlow won the medley in 1 minute, 34.78. In the heats, they swam 1:35.14, shaving .37 seconds off the record Germany had shared with Sweden.
Emma Igelstrom of Sweden tied the record in the women’s 50 breaststroke, meaning three women share a world mark for the first time at any distance.
Igelstrom won the final in 30.56, equaling what Chinese swimmers Luo Xue Wei and Li Wei timed this month in Shanghai.
