Boston woman pleads guilty in stabbing of 73-year-old man

BOSTON (AP) — A Boston woman charged with fatally stabbing a 73-year-old man in an argument over money has pleaded guilty.

Angeliea Brown had been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in connection with the August 2013 death of Winston Fields, but on Wednesday pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter just as her trial was about to start.

Prosecutors say the 35-year-old Brown and Fields had been using drugs together before Brown stabbed the victim 10 times, including once in the neck.

A witness said he heard the two arguing about money.

Brown was also tied to the death through Fields’ blood on items found on her purse.

She was expected to argue self-defense at trial.

Sentencing is scheduled for next week. She faces 15 to 18 years in prison.
