July 6, 2014

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (AP) — South Africa captain AB de Villers won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening match of the three-match one-day international series against Sri Lanka at R. Premadasa Stadium on Sunday.

South Africa fielded a pace-heavy bowling attack including Ryan McLaren, Vernon Philander and experienced Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.

Sri Lanka included specialist spinners Sachithra Senanayake and Ajantha Mendis in its starting XI and also named allrounder Ashan Priyanjan instead of Thisara Perera.

Veteran allrounder Jacques Kallis plays his first international for the Proteas in seven months and legspinner Imran Tahir was also included for a pitch expected to suit slower bowlers later in the game.
