N. Illinois 85, LaSalle 75
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) _ Marlin Simms and Ronald Minter both came off the bench to hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 2:23 Wednesday in leading Northern Illinois to an 85-75 win over LaSalle
Hubert Register, who scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, added a field goal during the final 2:30 of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference game.
LaSalle’s Explorers (12-13, 6-7) were led by Kareem Townes’ 32 points and Paul Burke’s 20.
Northern’s Huskies (17-8, 7-7) was ahead 38-29 at halftime, and enjoyed its biggest advantage of the night, 44-32, early in the second half.
LaSalle got as close as three points on seven occasions, the last being 75-72 on a pair of Townes’ free throws with two minutes left.
For the Huskies, Mike Lipnisky added 19 points, while Sims had 12 and Minter added 11.
