Two French Divers Drown in Red Sea
CAIRO, Egypt (AP) _ Two French tourists drowned Wednesday after becoming stuck in coral reefs near a Red Sea resort.
The tourists, both men, were diving with a group of other tourists, police said.
After their wives reported them missing, frogmen searched the area, near the resort of Hurghada, and found their bodies stuck in the reefs, police said.
Their names were released in Arabic by Egyptian police as Manuel Markt, 48, and Akhoun Evelen, 45. Attempts to reach the French embassy were not immediately successful.
Hurghada, 250 miles southeast of Cairo, draws thousands of tourists annually. Diving accidents are not uncommon in the area; a German diver drowned in September.
