The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released a report on how fish and other aquatic life fared after the agency inadvertently triggered a mine waste spill that polluted rivers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. By Dan Elliott.


FATAL JOKE-SOLDIER_ A witness tells authorities that an accidental fatal shooting by a Fort Carson soldier was a joke that turned deadly.

SALVATION ARMY KETTLE THEFT _ The Salvation Army in Fort Collins says a bell ringer stole a red kettle and $400 at the end of a shift outside a Colorado grocery store. The Coloradoan reports a Salvation Army officer was going to pick up the kettle at about 7 p.m. Friday when the bell ringer ran away with the kettle full of donations.

COLD CASE SLAYINGS-COLORADO _ A judge has ordered that a Nevada inmate accused of killing four people in suburban Denver more than 30 years ago be sent to Colorado. Colorado authorities began extradition proceedings against Alexander Christopher Ewing in August after announcing he was linked to the killings through DNA evidence.

KIDNEY DONATION-STRANGER _ A Florida firefighter has donated a kidney to help a stranger. The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports doctors at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, removed a kidney from 41-year-old Edgewater firefighter David Blair on Nov. 15 and prepped 33-year-old Heidi Hughes to receive it. The surgery went well. Blair is home and recovering.
