Caroline Kennedy upbeat about economic growth across Asia

April 10, 2015

WASHINGTON (AP) — Caroline Kennedy, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, says surging economic growth presents America with “much opportunity” in Asia.

In an interview for CBS’s “60 Minutes,” the daughter of President John F. Kennedy says the American news media are “missing the story.”

She was very upbeat about changes in Asia, saying “there is so much opportunity going on here,” and says there is a lot of “goodwill” toward the United States.

Obama had said he wanted to focus more heavily on Asia in his second term, but he’s been besieged by a series of international crises including the rise of the Islamic State group, whose advances in Iraq and Syria have further destabilized the Mideast. He’s also been busy with nuclear talks with Iran and efforts to reach an Israeli-Palestinian accord.
