ATLANTA (AP) _ Police arrested two of about 30 people protesting constuction of the controversial Presidential Parkway in northeast Atlanta Tuesday.

Police spokesman Benjamin Sims said Mary Jane Newsome was inside the cab of a boom crane and was arrested for criminal trespass and reckless conduct when she refused to leave. As police attempted to remove her, Zack Ethridge obstructed their efforts and he was arrested on a criminal trespass charge, Sims said.

The protest was the latest in a series of demonstrations against construction of the 21/2 -mile road, which is planned as a connector to Jimmy Carter's presidential library. Neighborhood residents have been fighting the project on the grounds that it will destroy historic parks.
