SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ Coleco Buie scored 14 second-half points to lead Southwest Missouri State past Missouri Valley Conference leader Illinois State 79-66 Monday night.

Buie scored nine of Southwest Missouri's first 17 points at the start of the second half to push the Bears from a 35-33 halftime deficit to a 50-44 lead with 11:31 remaining.

Southwest Missouri then went on a 21-13 run to take a 71-57 lead at the 2:31 mark. The Bears (18-6, 8-5) shot just 27 percent in the first half but held Illinois State (17-4, 10-3) to 37 percent from the field for the game.

It was the first time Southwest Missouri coach Steve Alford had beaten Illinois State in his two-year career with Southwest Missouri.

Buie, who had a total of 22 points, was one of five Southwest Missouri starters to finish in double figures. Danny Moore scored 20 and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kevin Ault added 15 and Ben Kandlbinder finished with 10.

Skipp Schaefbauer led the Redbirds with 18 points. Rico Hill added 16.
