1. The first matchup between rivals New Mexico and New Mexico State took place on Jan. 1, 1894 — 18 years before New Mexico achieved statehood.

2. New Mexico leads the overall series with New Mexico State 70-33-5 but the Aggies have won five of the past nine meetings.

3. New Mexico State has won four conference titles, the last in 1978 (Missouri Valley Conference).

4. New Mexico State advanced to its first bowl game in 57 years last season, defeating Utah State 26-20 in overtime in the Arizona Bowl.

5. Two weeks ago, New Mexico State beat Alcorn State 52-42. The two teams combined for 1,183 yards with the Aggies posting 529 (396 passing) and the Braves getting 654 (338 rushing).
