LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Mykelti Williamson, best known as the shrimp-farming friend of Tom Hanks' character in ``Forrest Gump,'' was arrested for investigation of stalking his ex-wife and stabbing a friend of hers.

Williamson was being held in lieu of $180,000 bail after the late Monday incident, Detective Jeff Carnival said today.

The stabbing victim was in critical condition, officials said. Police refused to give out the name of Williamson's ex-wife or the friend or even say whether the friend was a man or a woman.

Williamson, 40, played Benjamin Buford ``Bubba'' Blue in ``Forrest Gump'' and also appeared in ``How to Make an American Quilt,'' ``Waiting to Exhale,'' ``Heat'' and ``Con Air.''

He is suspected of waiting outside the woman's home and then following her when she went shopping, Carnival said. Williamson confronted her, took her keys and went back to her home, Carnival said.

The friend was stabbed at the woman's home, apparently with a butcher knife, the detective said.

Williamson was arrested at a residence about 3 miles away, Carnival said.
