Luan Elizabeth Meldrum Simons

1931 -2019

Luan Elizabeth Meldrum Simons passed away peacefully at her home in Spanish Fork on May 17, 2019. She was born in Spanish Fork on Sept. 28, 1931 to Fred Richmond Meldrum and Margaret Alene Tuttle Meldrum. She was the oldest of their 6 children. She grew up in Spanish Fork where she met and married her sweetheart, Morris Martell Simons, on June 19, 1952 in the Manti Temple, which started their lifelong adventure together. They were blessed with adding 8 boys and 4 girls to their family over the next 23 years. Luan dedicated her life to the rearing and caring of her children and to service to those in her circle of influence.

She graduated from BYU after her 9th child was born. She was not afraid of work and was involved in many enterprises over her lifetime including chicken farming, pre-school teacher, restaurant owner, land developer, Fuller Brush representative and substitute teacher for Nebo School District.

She had many talents and hobbies including sewing, cooking and gardening. She loved family reunions, her club group and solving puzzles.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings and assignments including the Relief Society, Young Women, Sunday School and Primary. She found a lot of joy in the service of the Lord. Luan and Morris served as missionaries in Charleston West Virginia for 2 years and enjoyed the people there. It was one of the highlights of their life together. Temple work and family history was important to her. She served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple for many years and her project for the last 2 years has been to record the history of her family and Morris’ family back to their great grand parents.

She is survived by 10 of her children Fred (Kathy), Robert, Glen (Linda), Karen (Paul) Christensen, Kent (Deanna), Sharon (Mark) Young, Gary (Monica), Blaine (Lisa), Lisa (Dennis) McGraw and Jennifer Hansen. 42 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. Her sisters Carma (Ray) Green, Sharlene (Kent) Cornaby, Lois (Merlin) Blad and sister in law Helen Meldrum.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Morris, 2 of her children Grant and Gregory, her brother Ross Meldrum and her sister Coleen Edman

There will be a viewing at Walker Mortuary in Spanish Fork on Thursday, May 23, 2019 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be at the LDS Spanish Fork East Stake Center 1150 South 1240 East Spanish Fork on Friday, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. There will be a viewing for friends and family from 9:30 to 10:45 Friday morning prior to the funeral. Internment will be in the Spanish Fork Cemetery.
