Trinity, Texas Lutheran end seasons with losses at NCAA Regional
Trinity and Texas Lutheran, the top two seeds at their NCAA Division III Regional, both lost Saturday in Seguin to end their seasons.
No. 1 seed Trinity, ranked No. 4 nationally in the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com poll, lost to No. 4 seed Franklin (Indiana) College for the second straight day. Tigers starter James Nittoli gave up four runs in the first inning and six overall in 4 1/3 innings. Trinity mustered five hits in the 6-3 defeat that was the last of Saturday’s three regional games.
Earlier in the day, Trinity beat No. 2 seed Texas Lutheran 10-7 to end the Bulldogs’ season. The Tigers trailed 7-4 entering the bottom of the seventh inning before exploding for six runs. Seven Trinity players had multiple hits, as the Tigers totaled 18 for the game. Michael Goodrich finished 2 for 4 with five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the seventh inning. Rafe Chaumette also hit a two-run homer in the seventh inning as part of a 3-for-5 day.
