BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The incoming president of the University of Vermont will receive a base salary of $480,000 a year according to his finalized employment contract.

Mynbc5.com reports Suresh Garimella will also receive $50,000 in deferred compensation and $100,000 in retirement benefits, bringing his total annual compensation to $630,000.

UVM said Friday Garimella’s compensation is in the mid-range of comparable institutions.

Garimella, a professor of mechanical engineering, is currently Purdue University’s executive vice president for research and partnerships.

He will take office July 1, succeeding current UVM President Thomas Sullivan, who is leaving the post later this year to finish a book.
