Christmas Fund registration opens Monday
MOUNT VERNON — Registration for the 2018 Skagit Valley Herald Christmas Fund opens at 1 p.m. Monday.
Eligible families must be Skagit County residents, have custody of one or more dependent children and have a family income under 150 percent of Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Those who qualify can sign up by calling 360-419-7182 or the Spanish line at 360-419-7184 from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Registration closes at 5 p.m. Dec. 7.
This year marks the fund’s 69th year of providing toys, books and holiday meals to families in need in Skagit County.
The fund also partners with Community Action of Skagit County to provide county residents with year-round emergency assistance of food, clothing and transportation.
Fund administrator Lynn Postler said she enjoys being involved in the nonprofit because it’s a fun program with great volunteers and families who are appreciative of all the hard work.
“Seeing the kids at distribution with their shiny eyes makes it all worthwhile,” Postler said.
In 2017, the fund was able to reach 5,169 children and 3,397 adults through collaborations with the Skagit Valley Herald, Community Action, Sea Mar, Toys for Tots, the Mount Vernon Fire Department and 250 volunteers. More than $106,000 was donated by 390 donors.
Those who wish to sponsor a family can call 360-419-7261. To volunteer, call 360-419-7263.
Toy donations can be dropped off at the Skagit Valley Herald at 1215 Anderson Road or at the Skagit County Fairgrounds North Entrance.
Money donations can be made online at goskagit.com/xmasfund, through checks payable to SVHCF and mailed to 1215 Anderson Road, Mount Vernon, 98274 or in person at the Skagit Valley Herald.
