Spartanburg names new city attorney
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — The City of Spartanburg has a new city attorney.
The Spartanburg Herald-Journal reports the City Council chose Robert P. Coler of Greenville to fill the post during an executive session Monday.
Coler, a graduate of SUNY and the University of South Carolina School of Law, is the current assistant city attorney of Greenville. He previously served as assistant solicitor in the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office in Spartanburg from 1998-2009. He also served as interim city attorney in Greenville from May to August in 2014.
The council’s decision came nearly a year after the previous city attorney, Cathy McCabe, retired. Larry Flynn was named interim city attorney but his contract was set to expire in June.
City Manager Chris Story anticipates no difficulties in contract negotiations with Coler.
