Man allegedly pointed rifle at woman
A Rochester man was arrested early Friday after allegedly pointing a rifle at a woman and her two children.
Jason Finstad, 36, could face charges of second-degree assault, terroristic threats and domestic assault, according to Rochester Police Capt. John Sherwin. Finstad was arrested around 2 a.m. Friday after police were called to a home in the 1300 block of Gage Court Northwest.
A woman told police that she picked Finstad up from work Thursday and could tell he had been drinking, Sherwin said. At Finstad’s request, the woman took him to the liquor store on the way back to her residence.
A verbal argument began and at some point overnight Finstad got a rifle and pointed it at the woman before smashing in an upstairs bedroom door where one of the woman’s children was sleeping.
Finstad gathered the woman and her two children, 11 and 14, in a hallway before walking away from them, Sherwin said. It was at that point the woman and her two children were able to leave and call police.
When officers arrived, Sherwin said they found Finstad in the backyard burning things. Police were able to recover the loaded rifle, Sherwin said.
Following the incident, the woman’s 14-year-old child told police he had heard what was going on and had his own shotgun and would use it if he had to, Sherwin said.
