Skier killed by avalanche in Czech mountain range
PRAGUE (AP) — An official says a skier has died after being hit by an avalanche in the highest Czech mountain range.
The mountain rescue service says a group of three skiers aged around 30 triggered the avalanche Thursday morning in the Giant Mountains. The avalanche hit two of them while the third escaped unharmed.
Pavel Jirsa of the mountain rescue service says the danger of a snowslide is higher than usual and the three were outside the prepared slopes and tourist routes and had apparently underestimated the risk.
