Tomball City Council approves 2018 tax rate
Tomball City Council has voted for the tax rate to remain at 34 cents per $100 valuation of a property for 2018.
Finance director Glenn Windsor said the tax rate was the last part of the annual budget.
“We’ve been working on the budget for several months now and we’re getting to the tax rate, which is the final item of adoption for the year,” he told the council on Monday, Oct. 1.
Based on the appraisals from the Harris County Appraisal District, the average taxable home value in Tomball is $181,780, he said.
An average tax bill without exemptions would be about $621.
“There’s people that have the over-65 or disability exemption (for) $90,000. Their taxes would be $313,” he said.
The council also approved allocating 23 cents of the tax rate to the sinking and interest fund, which would be used to pay down the city’s debts.
The remaining 11 cents of the tax rate will be allocated to the maintenance and operations fund.
The council will make a final vote on the tax rate on Oct. 15.
