WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) _ Wake Forest center Rafael Vidaurreta underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Tuesday, and could miss the early part of the season.

Vidaurreta, a 6-foot-9 senior, had the operation to repair a fracture to bony cartilage in his right knee. The surgery, performed at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, came after Vidaurreta experienced pain in his knee during preseason workouts.

His progress will be re-evaluated in 6-8 weeks. The school did not list a return date for Vidaurreta. The National Invitation Tournament champions open the 2000-01 season Nov. 16 against Mount St. Mary's.

Vidaurreta is the only Demon Deacons player to have played in all 36 games last season, averaging 4.9 points and 6.9 rebounds.
