NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) _ Eric Leftwich scored 24 points Monday night as slow-starting Stephen F. Austin whipped Northwestern State 83-68 in Southland Conference basketball.
Stephen F. Austin (9-5, 4-2) trailed 15-5 six minutes into the game, but Northwestern went without a basker from the floor for 8 minutes and 48 seconds late in the half and the Lumberjacks took command.
It was the first time Northwestern (3-11, 1-5) had lost to Stephen F. Austin at home since 1987.
Rontrek Floyd added 17 for the Lumberjacks and Roynal Bridgeforth scored 10.
Northwestern got 16 from Gary Henderson, 12 by Gerald Hollins and Stephen Barnes had 11.
Leftwich scored 12 of his points during an 18-6 run to take the lead, 23-21, with 6:40 left in the half. After a timeout, the Lumberjacks outscored Northwestern 17-3 over the rest of the half and led 40-24.
Stephen F. Austin hit its first seven shots of the second half, running out to a 56-33 lead with 15:20 left. The final 15-point margin was as close as Northwestern got.
