Nylon Helped Mr. Ed’s Lips Move
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ Mr. Ed was the best. Just ask Wilbur.
Alan Young, 73, spent five seasons in the ’60s playing Wilbur Post, the guy who talked to his horse on TV’s ``Mr. Ed.″
The horse was the best actor he ever worked with, Young said Thursday during a three-day fan convention.
``He didn’t upstage you. He knew his lines. He got there on time,″ Young said.
So how did Ed talk? It was a closely guarded secret for years.
``I created the lie that we used peanut butter,″ Young said, but ``we used a soft piece of nylon under his lip, which he tried to work out.″
Western B-movie star Allan ``Rocky″ Lane supplied the voice.
