Late goal lifts Brunswick soccer past Cheshire Academy
A second-half goal by Aidan Williams gave the Brunswick School soccer team a 1-0 road win against Cheshire Academy in a game held on Wednesday.
The win raised the Bruins’ record to 2-3-2 heading into Saturday’s road matchup at Kent.
Brunswick netted the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute, as Arryan Chinai played a corner kick that Harry Barringer directed through the six-yard box to the foot of Aidan Williams. Williams then knocked his shot into the back of the net, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead.
Cheshire had a several chances to tie the game in the closing minutes, but the Bruins’ maintained their lead. Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl, along with center-backs Ben Powers and Jack Withstandley turned away each Cheshire Academy scoring opportunity down the stretch.
Meindl finished with five saves for the Bruins, who were were out-shot 10-7.
