BellSouth Plans to Cut 1,200 Jobs
ATLANTA (AP) _ BellSouth said Friday it plans to eliminate 1,200 technical and clerical jobs throughout the company’s nine-state service area.
A spokesman for the telecommunications giant, Jeff Battcher, said these cuts are separate from a plan announced in October to trim the payroll by 3,000 white-collar jobs.
Noah Savant, a spokesman for the Communications Workers of America, said the 1,200 jobs will be eliminated by the end of March. The union represents 54,000 of BellSouth’s 103,000 workers.
