Tennis Hopes Teens Come to Event
NEW YORK (AP) _ Tennis organizers hope teens who love Lil’ Bow Wow and O-Town will come to Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day, the kickoff event for the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
The rapper and the boy band will be part of daylong activities geared at promoting tennis to children. Getting more kids to play tennis was among the goals of the late tennis great Arthur Ashe.
``I’m psyched to help kick off the U.S. Open at Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day,″ the 14-year-old Lil’ Bow Wow said Tuesday. ``To perform in front so many kids in honor of such a great role model will make this one of my most memorable moments.″
Erik-Michael Estrada of O-Town echoed those sentiments. ``It’s an honor for us to be a part of this event and carry on the legacy of Arthur Ashe,″ Estrada said. ``We are all big tennis fans and can’t think of a better place to perform than the site of the U.S. Open for Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day.″
Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is set for Aug. 25 at Flushing Meadows.
