Woman fatally shot in Wednesday dispute identified
A woman fatally shot when a neighborhood dispute erupted in gunfire Wednesday has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Marzelina Torres, 62, was found unresponsive after 11 a.m. in the 6500 block of Waterfall when Bexar County deputies arrived for reports of a shooting.
Juan Jose Vasquez, 64, was arrested at the scene and charged with murder as well as two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bail totaled $300,000.
Deputies said that Vasquez and Torres had been feuding for months, if not a whole year, leading up to the Wednesday shooting.
“We don’t know what the trigger (was) ... but we believe there was an ongoing dispute with these folks that goes back several months, maybe upwards of a year,” said Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar.
Investigators said that Torres and another person were leaving her driveway when Vasquez began shooting.
Witnesses told investigators they saw Vasquez point a handgun at the victims as they sat in the SUV and then open fire.
When deputies arrived, they used a tactical shield to approach Vasquez’s home. He was cooperative and surrendered to deputies.
Paramedics took Torres to Northeast Methodist Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Vasquez was still in jail as of Friday night.
