Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad hosts 25th annual Polar Express; tickets on sale Oct. 3

PENINSULA, Ohio – Tickets go on sale Oct. 3 at 9 a.m. for the Polar Express, a popular holiday train ride to the North Pole put on by the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.

Tickets can be purchased online here. Tickets prices range from $45 to $97 per person. Children under two don’t need a ticket but must sit on a parent or guardian’s lap.

During the event, now in its 25th year, the Polar Express movie soundtrack plays in the background as passengers enjoy hot chocolate and cookies and listen to a reading of the classic children’s story, read by the book’s author, Chris Van Allsburg.

When the train pulls into North Pole village, filled with caroling elves, Santa greets each child and gives them a sleigh bell -- the first gift of Christmas.

On the way back to the station, chefs and servers aboard the train lead the kids in singing Christmas carols and host a pajama parade.

A variety of ticket options are available, including coach, suites, deluxe, executive and first class. New this year is seating on the newly acquired California Zephyr train cars.

The Polar Express runs from Nov. 10 through Dec. 21, excluding November 21 and 22. The train departs from both Akron Northside, 27 Ridge St. in Akron, and Rockside Station, 7900 Old Rockside Road in Independence, every day at 7 p.m. The train ride lasts two hours. Merchandise can be purchased at the stations prior to departure. Attendees should arrive an hour before departure time.

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic railroad also is seeking volunteers to be chefs, servers and Santa’s helpers at the North Pole during the Polar Express. Training takes place Oct. 1 and 2 at 6 p.m. and Oct. 14 at 5:30 p.m. Complete an online volunteer application here.
