No. 21 Iowa 101, Md.-E. Shore 45
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Rodell Davis scored 14 points and Troy Skinner added 13 in a reserve role Saturday, pacing No. 21 Iowa to a 101-45 romp over Maryland-Eastern Shore.
Iowa (1-0) used a 25-5 spurt midway through the first half to open a 45-21 lead at halftime over the Hawks (0-1). Davis scored 13 of his team’s first 19 points, but saw limited playing time the rest of the way because of an upset stomach.
Wade Lookingbill’s basket capped a 9-2 spurt to start the second half and gave Iowa a 54-23 lead that grew to more than 40 points with about seven minutes remaining.
Skinner, who lost the starting point guard job to Val Barnes last week, sank three of six field goals, including 2-for-4 from 3-point range, and hit five of six free throws. Barnes scored 12 points, as did Acie Earl, who tied a career record with eight blocked shots.
Earl, who rejected eight shots last year against Northern Iowa, also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Simon Edwards led Maryland-Eastern Shore with 14 points.
