AP-TX--Texas General Election Testing,ADVISORY, TX
NOT FOR BROADCAST, PUBLICATION OR USE ONLINE
The TEXAS general election is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Poll close: 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST (7 p.m. and 8 p.m. CST)
First results expected: 8:03 p.m. EST (7:03 CST)
UPDATE: OCTOBER 8, 2018: The section “National Election Reports” was modified. It now only refers users to the respective advisories for further information.
The AP is tabulating 205 races in this election, including 13 for statewide constitutional and judicial offices and all 36 congressional seats. U.S. Senate and Governor headline the statewide offices. No incumbent is running for seven of the U.S. House seats, including Beto O’Rourke (Dem) who challenges incumbent Senator Ted Cruz (GOP) at the top of the ballot. As noted for the March primary, Republicans have no nominees in U.S. House districts 9, 20, 28 and 30.
Also part of the AP coverage are contests for five seats on the state Board of Education, 14 in the state Senate, 102 in the state House, 32 places in the District Courts of Appeal, special elections to fill out unexpired terms for state House districts 52 and 62 (uncontested) and a City of Houston city charter amendment.
There are 65 uncontested races across all race categories to be declared and reported when the last polls close in the state.
Vote Centers: Some 56 counties will use countywide polling places on Election Day. A voter may choose any location to cast their ballot in these counties. No individual precinct can be known to be completely counted until all vote centers have reported to the county tabulation center. Early and absentee (advance) votes will be reported as an additional vote center for these counties. In reports and tables, the units being counted for every county will be labeled as precincts.

Testing begins on Oct. 8. AP will be testing on Mondays from 1-3 p.m. EDT (two hours) (noon - 2 p.m. CDT) and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. EDT (four hours) (10 a.m. - 2 p.m. CDT).
Last election test is on Monday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. EST (four hours) (10 a.m. - 2 p.m. CDT). No winners will be called during the last test.
This advisory may be updated throughout the testing period.
Zeros will be transmitted after testing on the eve of the election.
Race calls: AP will make race calls on election night unless a race is too close to call. Race calls will be made during testing, except on the day of the final test.
Races and candidates are considered preliminary. AP will advise when they are final.
Statewide and race-specific precinct totals in early tests are considered preliminary.
Uncontested races: AP does not tabulate uncontested races. A list of races, TX-Uncontested, will move to premium service subscribers at ftp://electionsonline.ap.org/TX/anpa/ and to state news and broadcast services after the last polls close.
Winners: AP will move a list of unofficial winners at the end of tabulation and during each test, except on the final day of testing. A list of winners, TX-Winners will move to premium services at ftp://electionsonline.ap.org/TX/anpa/.
End of tabulation: AP will advise when its election night tabulation of results has concluded, generally before 6 p.m. CST the day after the election.
Test results are created electronically to test the accuracy of the election night reporting system and do not reflect an expectation of election results. They should not be broadcast, published, replicated or posted on websites.
It is vital to read weekly advisories during testing. Advisories move to news service advisory queues. Advisories note updates to candidates, races and precincts, along with the date when updates will appear. Changes may be made up to Election Day.
AP advises capture of each test during the testing period and particularly during the final test on the day before the election to ensure readiness to take results on Election Day.
Report frequency in testing may not reflect the actual election night schedule. As example, county tables for contested U.S. House races may move to Member Choice subscribers during each hour of a test, but will move just twice on election night.
