Fire Department to resume water rescue search today

The Fort Wayne Fire Department’s water rescue team will resume its search today for a person who was reported to have jumped off a bridge at Spy Run Avenue and State Boulevard on Wednesday evening.

An onlooker called 911 around 6 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the bridge, Deputy Fire Chief Adam O’Connor said.

The search was halted Wednesday evening, O’Connor said.

The water rescue team includes firefighters who specialize in scuba diving. The fire department has 36 firefighters working in water rescue, O’Connor said.

Victim of Congress Ave. shooting ID’d

A second man shot on Fort Wayne’s southeast side Sunday night remains in critical condition.

Police identified the victim Wednesday as Nathaniel S. Nix II, 28, of Fort Wayne. He was found inside a house in the 3500 block of Congress Avenue, east of Hessen Cassel Road, critically wounded.

Nix was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday, police said.

Another man, Drake Amir Wells, 21, was pronounced dead outside a home in the 3400 block of Congress on Sunday night.

Driver runs into Lakeside school

A car caused minimal damage Wednesday when it ran into the side of Lakeside Middle School at Lake Avenue and Randallia Drive.

Fort Wayne Community Schools officials said a handicapped parking sign was damaged in the process.

No injuries to the driver were reported.
