Firefighters build wheelchair ramp for cancer patient
JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island woman who lost her ability to walk after she was diagnosed with cancer is thanking local firefighters for building a wheelchair ramp at her home.
WPRI-TV reports Bruni Sias was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer that spread to her brain, causing her to become partially paralyzed. Johnston firefighters sprang into action after they were contacted by Sias’ friend.
The firefighters built a home ramp in their spare time with help from a local retailer, a landscaper and the health care organization Pink Heals.
Firefighter Chris Delfino says helping someone out is “priceless.”
Sias says the firefighters worked hard and that she’s thankful.
